Canada's Doug Bouey To Receive 2007 Dope Cope Memorial Award

(March 27) One of TEC Canada’s most respected Chairs is now among its most honored as Doug Bouey will receive the prestigious Don Cope Memorial Award for his storied tenure and outstanding performance. The Award is bestowed by Vistage International each year on an extraordinary Chair of Vistage or its affiliates.
The Cope Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a Chair, and Bouey’s name now joins 20 others appearing on the Vistage “Wall of Fame” at its San Diego headquarters. He is only the second non-U.S. Chair to receive the Cope Award. Adrian Geering of Australia earned the same honor in 2002.
“Essentially, Doug is receiving this award because he is an exemplary Chair who has made an incalculable difference in the lives and businesses of the many grateful members who he has influenced over 20 years,” said Rafael Pastor, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Vistage International. “It’s my personal pleasure that we’ve selected Doug to receive this award because as I’ve gotten to know him I have appreciated his inspiringly fine qualities as a human being,” Pastor added.
In addition to this year’s Cope Award, Doug Bouey also received TEC Canada’s Nourse “Chair of the Year’ Award as well as his 14th Chair Excellence honor.
Bouey is described by his members in Canada as a “sage” and “an enthusiastic supporter in word and deed.” A Chair since 1986 in Calgary, Alberta, he has consistently been high-performing in all those years. As of the end of February 2008, he had an average group size of 16.5 members, with 100% retention over a trailing 12 month period.
In addition to his TEC 217 group, Bouey is a Regional Chair (the equivalent of a Best Practice Chair in the U.S.) for the Prairies, which include the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba provinces. Before becoming a Chair, he was a partner in a commercial and native law firm and served a term as lawyer-in-residence at the University of Calgary Law School.
“There is so much to admire about Doug and the work he has done on behalf of his members and the TEC Canada organization that we are delighted to have him join that rare group of Chairs around the world who have earned the Cope Award,” said Greg Wells, Vistage’s Chief of Field Operations, who led the Chair awards program that selected this year’s recipients.
The Cope Award was established in 1986 in honor of longtime Chair Don Cope. Chairs with at least 10 years of active service are eligible and nominated by Partners, Best Practice Chairs and the San Diego Executive Team. Final selection is made by a committee consisting of Rafael Pastor, Greg Wells and Richard Carr, Senior Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Board for Vistage.
Unlike other annual awards, only one Cope winner is chosen worldwide. Bouey will later be recognized at a dinner in his honor, where he’ll receive the Cope Trophy and special blue Cope Blazer given to all recipients.
