Los Angeles Business Community Welcomes George Walker’s New Vistage Group
San Diego, October 1, 2014— Vistage Chair George Walker has recently launched a new small business group in the Los Angeles, CA market. The new Vistage group, joining a community of more than 530 local members, will meet monthly to discuss business issues, share expertise, and provide one another confidential help to achieve their goals. Walker is part of a community of 24 local Chairs, and more than 400 worldwide, who lead local area groups, which total more than 45,000 members in 35 countries.
Vistage Regional Executive Jason Bateman applauded his success: “George Walker is a longtime friend of mine, having recruited him as a Chair more than eight years ago. George spent most of his long corporate career at Unocal, a very large Fortune 100 company, yet he has spent the last years truly helping the nimble and entrepreneurial business owners in his SB group. Having taken his first group to 15 members with an astonishing 100% retention he is now helping another set of business owners with his second SB group. George’s calculating strategic mind, deeply caring empathy and detailed approach make me confident his new group will be in great hands as they grow their companies with George and each other in the coming years. Congratulation George on your continued success and I eagerly look forward to seeing what other contributions you make to the LA Chair Community. I am proud to have you representing the Pacific Region and I still fondly remember our initial conversations about becoming a Chair those 8+ long years ago.”
An engineer by education, Walker had a 36 year career with Unocal. His 24 years in the refining division culminated in a 4-year assignment as the General Manager of a refinery in the Los Angeles Harbor area – a $1 billion per year business. His success in dealing with the challenging regulatory environment led to a promotion to Vice President for Health Environment and Safety, with worldwide responsibilities. He retired from Unocal after 12 years as a Corporate Officer and subsequently held consulting assignments with the Nature Conservancy and PG&E. George now devotes his energy full-time to coaching business owners – helping them to grow their businesses and find work/life balance.
